Aloha Dear Maui Mama! Either you just started practicing Prenatal Yoga & Movement Exploration with me or have already been coming to classes, you know how passionate I am about Pelvic Floor awareness & moving with freedom while preparing you for the ultimate Journey to Motherhood! Let's just get back in time to share why I do teach this class. When I tried Yoga the first time I could NOT stand it. Literally! It is only in 2009, when I was pregnant with my first daughter that I gave the practice a second chance and oh boy, it did not disappoint! I was, at that time, caught up with a demanding job, far from family and friends, in a country that was still very foreign to me. This pregnancy was about overmedicated doctor's appointments, checking Baby's growth, medical technicalities, loads of information that did not serve me or my birthing hopes, overwhelming unwanted advice. The first Prenatal Yoga class was a revelation! I finally found out what was missing since the moment I held the positive pregnancy test in my hands! This class was about me! It was about how I connected with Baby or how I cared for myself during this time of transition and change. Sharing weekly this space with other women that I barely knew, was the most exciting thing I was looking for all week long. This was a time I could let go, cultivate freedom and not bother about others opinions. My second pregnancy was also supported by this practice. Even more so, the tools I had learned during Prenatal Yoga supported me during an unmedicated labor & birth to my postpartum Journey. I left the corporate world shortly after to become a Yoga instructor to share this precious gift to other women in the hopes that maybe, it would inspire them the way it inspired me! Overtime, I thought that the practice of Asana (yoga postures) & breath work were enough for my Pelvic Floor to be happy and strong. Little did I know that Kegel's (squeeze & release) was not the most appropriate & only available tool to recover from 2 vaginal births. Visiting a pelvic floor specialist here on island has been an eye opener. I take these teachings to class, hoping you become more familiar with your core, your pelvic floor muscles and the deep connection with the breath. Don't we breathe Babies out? Soulasana Yoga Studio offers that warm and cosy urban oasis where women can gather safely together while feeling supported. I hope to hold space for you to find freedom and connect to yourself. My CORE PILLARS OF PRENATAL YOGA & MOVEMENT EXPLORATION are: RE-WILDING: Pregnancy has become very medicated & controlled, I hope to offer ways for you, Mama, to reconnect to your natural wild instincts, find your inner Warrior and voice. RE-VOLUTION: For generations, we have been trained to be tamed, make no noise or don't raise our voices. I hope to inspire you, Mama, to redefine Motherhood while building self-trust & confidence. RE-SACRALIZE: The modern fast paced world approaches pregnancy as a condition needing control, convenience and comfort, disconnecting Mother from Baby or the natural experience of the Journey. I hope to bring sacredness of the ever changing body, with the awareness of the fascinating undercarriage that is the Pelvic Floor. GLOBAL ACTIVISM: This Yoga practice is beyond adapting postures, its only purpose is to serve you, Mama. I use traditional and fact based movement modalities to prepare the mind and body for the most amazing Journey of Motherhood. It is also a time to honor the stories and the path our ancestors have paved, creating a rite of passage for Mamas as they cross over the most sacred threshold. KEEP PRACTICING! Diaphragmatic breath, strong core, functional Pelvic Floor muscles, happy low back & birth channel! See below. GOOD READ! This book is written candidly with intelligence. Like a conversation with a wise friend about what it means to become a mother; it explores ways that motherhood changes you with a realistic and hopeful approach. By exploring what mothers want from their lives, De Marneffe avoids completely the debate about whether it is best for a woman to focus on career or on family, since each woman must decide for herself! Did you read it already? Share your thoughts! DIG DEEPER? Pelvis discomfort during pregnancy? Leaking when you sneeze after having given birth more than 8 weeks ago? Pre-Postnatal constipation? Postnatal Sexual intercourse discomfort? Angie Peters is the Pelvic Floor QUEEN on the island of Maui. Reach out to her here. You won't be disappointed. DID YOU KNOW? Kegel exercices were created by Doctor Kegel from L.A. USA in the late 40' to help women regain control of their bladder after birthing. Women lifestyles have since changed very much (physical activities, driving, sitting behind a desk at work...) Nowadays, according to research, 40% of women have a hypertonic Pelvic Floor, tighter. But this does not mean stronger. So applying only Kegel's exercices might not support the balance of toned Pelvic Floor muscles! Keeping balance and buoyancy is key! Self-Love MANTRA
